Award
Participants will be awarded a FETAC Level 6 Certificate.
Duration of certificate
Generally recommended every three years.
Venue
Training is generally requested at the client’s premises but learners can also avail of the Safety Solutions Training facility if preferred.
Course description & General Information
AIMS OF COURSE:
Participants will be able to:
- Competently instruct and train others on the techniques and theory of Safe Manual Handling.
- Understand all Relevant Legislation.
- Identify Ergonomic Risks and recommend Control Measures.
- Assess the risks associated with Manual Handling tasks.
CONTENT OF COURSE:
DAY 1
To enable the learner:
- To develop skills for developing manual handling instruction programmes
- To understand the principles of adult learning
- To develop effective communication skills
- To develop an understanding of designing lessons plans
- To understand the organisational resources needed to design and deliver manual handling presentations
DAY 2
To enable the learner:
- To develop trainee motivational techniques
- To understand class room group dynamics
- To understand different learning styles of trainees
- To practice delivery of manual handling instruction
- To develop core competencies to deliver presentations with confidence

- Anatomy
- Back care
DAY 4
- General Health and Safety (applicable aspects of the Safety, Health & Work Act 2005)
- Manual Handling Legislation (Safety Health & Welfare at Work (General Application) Regulations 2007)
- General risk assessment and manual handling risk assessment and risk reduction measures
- Manual handling principles & techniques
- Lifting safely
DAY 5
- Ergonomic principles
- Assessment of push & pull tasks
- Various lifts & carries
- Assessment of learners performance
- Theory Exam
